About Narathiwat

Narathiwat is Thailand's southernmost province on the Gulf of Thailand coast, bordering Malaysia, and is culturally Malay-Muslim with a distinct cuisine, architecture, and way of life that feels closer to Kelantan than Bangkok. The province is known for its beautifully painted wooden boats (korlae), exquisitely carved fishing vessels considered works of art; the annual Korlae Boat Race is a spectacular cultural event. Travellers should check current government travel advisories before visiting, as parts of the deep south have experienced periodic security incidents in recent years.
