About Maha Sarakham

Maha Sarakham is known as the "Educational Hub of Isan" and hosts two large universities that give the province a youthful, lively character unusual in the northeast. The province is home to Ku Santarat, a well-preserved Khmer laterite shrine from the 12th century, and the Rajabhat University museum holds impressive collections of prehistoric artefacts from Ban Chiang-related cultures. Excellent Isan food — including local specialities like larb moo and som tam varieties unique to the region — can be found at lively night markets.
