Nonthaburi is the most densely populated province outside Bangkok, effectively forming part of the greater Bangkok metropolitan area along the Chao Phraya River's western bank. The province is famous throughout Thailand for its sweet pomelo (som-o Nonthaburi) and durian orchards that still survive amid the urban sprawl. Ko Kret, a small river island accessible by ferry from Pak Kred, is a charming enclave of Mon pottery-making traditions, temple fairs, and wooden shophouses.
