About Nong Khai
Nong Khai is the most popular crossing point between Thailand and Laos, connected to Vientiane by the First Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, and has long been a favourite stop for backpackers drawn to its relaxed Mekong riverside culture. The unmissable Sala Kaew Ku sculpture park just east of town is a surreal wonderland of enormous Hindu–Buddhist statues created by the mystic Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat. The town's evening promenade along the Mekong, lined with restaurants and bars, is one of the most atmospheric in all of Isan.
