About Bueng Kan
Bueng Kan is Thailand's newest province, established in 2011 from the northern part of Nong Khai, and sits on the Mekong River directly opposite Laos. The province is famous for Wat Phu Tok, a Buddhist monastery built within the crevices and ledges of an ancient sandstone outcrop rising dramatically from the plains — an extraordinary pilgrimage site requiring a head for heights. The Mekong riverfront and nearby forests offer excellent bird-watching and a frontier atmosphere.
