About Surin
Surin is the elephant capital of Thailand, home to a large Suai (Kui) ethnic community with generations-old bonds with elephants, and hosts the spectacular Surin Elephant Roundup every November. The province is also rich in Khmer cultural heritage, with the outstanding Prasat Sikhoraphum and Prasat Ban Phluang temples representing some of the finest 12th-century Khmer art outside Cambodia. Surin's silk-weaving tradition produces some of the most prized phasin cloth in the country, available at the vibrant Surin city market.
